Augustus, according to the architect of his time, Vitrivius (II,VIII,11); Although Mausssollos was born in Mylasa, he decided to settle in Halicarnassus with the aim of establishing a satrapy center, since the city was naturally a good harbor suitable for defense and at the same time was in a convenient location for trade.
The attempt of the Satrap (Governorship) center to move from Mylasa to Halicarnassus can be explained by the Sea sovereignty that it wants to establish in the Aegean with its navy fleet based in a port city secured by strong walls.
After Halicarnassus was made the capital, the city was reconstructed with the City Walls, Stadium, Amphitheater, Mausoleum and many other monumental works. The fortification walls, which are approximately 6.5 km long, surround Bodrum city center today. Although approximately 5 km of the fortification walls have been largely destroyed by the protection measures, it still maintains its existence. The city walls are seen as a monumental work not only with their wall structure, but also with their outposts, watchtowers and Myndos gate.
